Working from home has an unseen benefit. Namely, you are unseen by others, except those in your household and the occasional Zoom call.
Beyond wardrobe and hygiene, what does that mean if you work from home?
It means you can do things you wouldn’t normally do in front of co-workers. Things you would feel self-conscious about.
For example, yours truly does something during the workday that might make others uncomfortable. Yet its something that provides tremendous benefits. It’s called tapping.
Now, I’ll forgive those of you thinking this is some sort of double entendre with other types of overtones. Tapping is a process of altering one’s state by quite literally tapping on targeted spots on your body.
There’s nothing dubious about where you tap to change your state. Around the eye, around the mouth, on the collarbone, under the armpit and on your head. And it’s extremely effective in addressing:
Anxiety
Depression
Low energy levels
Focus
Stress
Anger
Fear
Much more
Tapping has been around for years and there have been many books on the subject. Favorites of mine include: Tapping the Healer Within and The Tapping Solution [affiliate links].
The author of the latter, Nicholas Ortner, has an app that provides tapping meditations for a number of conditions. Please note I’m not an affiliate of The Tapping Solution app. Just a very satisfied customer who has used the app since the beginning of 2021 to address many issues, including the management of the grieving process after my father’s death in March.
Now, some of you might be saying you could do this in a traditional office setting. Perhaps, if you’re not the self-conscious type. However, the best results with tapping tend to come from when you can find a quiet space to focus.
It’s been a while since I’ve worked in a traditional office space. It’s not too difficult to imagine and even hear the snickers of my co-workers.
No, some things are better done in private. Hence the benefit of working from home.
For My HOHs (my home office hackers), the tip is to find something you can do during the course of your workday that refocuses or re-energizes you. Tapping is a great one. And you can sample some free tapping meditations on Nicholas Ortner’s website.
If you want to try a meditation, here’s one from The Tapping Solutions YouTube channel:
Please feel free to share this post. During the remainder of the pandemic and beyond, the more tools we have to sustain our mental health the better we all are.
