What? – Visually, you want your emails to graphically form an F so that it takes readers down your email from the headline to the CTA.

Why it matters – Readers scan, both in the preview pane and even if they open. The “F” pattern draws their eye.

Going deeper – Axios made this strategy famous in Smart Brevity. That’s the style of writing employed here. By using axioms or section headers, you will see a bolded F when you view the email. It’s a style most most media outlets use in their in their newsletters.

Why it matters most – Whether you’re writing an email for work or your business, you’re in a battle for in-box attention and you’re competing against pros. Why not beat them at their own game?
