Help Every Reporter Out recaptures Peter Shankman's original Help A Reporter Out vision. The best city in the US to WFH is...
We need another HERO. Last week, journalists, publishers and PR professionals got one: Help Every Reporter Out (HERO). HERO provides journalists a place to post queries for sources, which are then distributed as an email (up to three per day).
Why it matters
Peter Shankman created HERO based on his original product, HARO or Help a Reporter Out, which he started in 2008. This wildly successful thrice-per-day newsletter was a must-read for thousands of PR professionals and journalists. I was one of those who regularly pitched clients as sources to queries on HARO
Cision, the media distribution company, bought HARO and is in the process of changing it to Connectively. IMHO, they effed it up.
Why it matters even more
HERO is free. Media outlets and contact info for the query originator are revealed. Like HARO, there is a one-strike and you’re out rule on off-topic pitches.
Big picture
If you publish a newsletter or blog and are working on an article and need an expert source, HERO provides an option. My one caveat is will they accept queries from smaller outlets like My Home Office Hacks. HARO sometimes did, sometimes not. Stay tuned.

Get off of my cloud
There’s a misconception that storing your files in the cloud protects you from hackers and IS a backup.
Wrong!
Why it matters
Files stored in the cloud are vulnerable to many of the same risks as those on your hard drive. Cloud backups provide another layer of:
• Data Loss Prevention
• Protection from Service Failures
• Security and Encryption
This article in Tom’s Guide provides the top 3 backup cloud services out there.
Inspiring quote of the week
