One of the many advantages of working from home: a reduction in arguments on what to music to play. Unless you’re sharing space with a member of your household, you can control the sound. Yet with this power comes great responsibility: you still have to get your work done.
So, you may want to listen to some of your favorite podcasts or artists. That may not be conducive to being productive from a work standpoint.
For years, experts have lauded the benefits of working to classical music, particularly Mozart. The argument that lyrics and talking tend to distract makes perfect sense. Until you share that message with a teenager doing their homework or trying to fall asleep. At a certain point, you pick your battles and let the chips fall where they may.
As a work from home professional, keeping the home office environment fresh can mean mixing up the soundtrack. Even the experts agree that workers are more productive working to classical music than dead silence.
So, what could you listen to at home that would enhance productivity?
This article from HubSpot includes several listening options. Those range from classical to white noise, nature sounds to video game soundtracks. Check it out.
As for your truly, the play list varies. It includes classical, shamanic drumming, Native American flute music, binaural sounds and even 1940s music. For some reason on the latter, the lyrics don’t distract me.
And when in doubt, just ask Alexa to play “instrumental music to work by”. She always comes up with something good.
