I admit it. I thought smart watches were stupid. That dates back to a few years ago when I first noticed people talking into their wrist watch, paying for items with their watch, texting and defrosting a roast—again, all with their wrist watch. This made even less sense as our smartphones and iphones had essentially rendered the watch irrelevant. So it made even less sense to put the functions of your phone on a smaller screen just so you could wear it on your wrist and, wait for it, pay a fortune for the privilege.
Fast forward to March 2023.
Had to buy a watch for a men’s retreat as I would need a time piece and phones had to be turned off. I grabbed a digital watch off Amazon, probably about $20. It reminded me of all the reasons I don’t enjoy wearing a watch. Mostly that’s it’s not comfortable, particularly while I’m at the keyboard. On top of that, it wasn’t particularly easy to see when it got a little darker out and I always had to hit an extra button for some light.
You get what you pay for, right?
What I didn’t know was that for $15 more, I could get a watch I could see with an extremely comfortable watchband—Soundpeats Watch 3.
Yet where this gets even better is that the Watch 3 has all the bells and whistles of the aforementioned smartwatches.
First, let’s start with the watch faces. Bright, colorful, mix of digital and analog. And if you wanted more options, you could download from the convenient app.
The Soundpeats Watch 3 also monitors your heart rate and calories during about a thousand activities—or at least it seems that way. You can even monitor your sleep. And, of course, it tracks every single step you take.
As a watch hater, I was not expecting to like Soundpeats Watch 3. Once it passed the comfort test while typing, it was off to the races to see what else I could with it. The video below gave me some more ideas.
Still with all it can do, like the review says, the best thing about the watch is the price. Just $36 on Amazon. That price is just stupid. Particularly when you compare it to a simple digital watch, which costs $20. If you’re stuck for a Father’s Day gift, the Soundpeats Watch 3 is the proverbial win-win. Great gift, great value.
Focus hack
If only there was such a thing. There is one way to improve your focus while using Microsoft Word. Scroll to the bottom right corner of your screen and click on the word “Focus”. Essentially, this makes your entire screen the page on which you are working. This prevents you from clicking on a browser, email or anything else that might get you off track. To return to the previous view, hit the ESC key.
Now, this method is not without flaws. The ESC always provides an out. Yet if you’re intent is to lock in, it does help. Give it a try.
