The simplest most useful hack
Plus, results from our "How Much Vacation Time Do You Take?" poll
My HOH is coming off vacation week. During vacation weeks, we try to keep things simple. It doesn’t get simpler than this hack for permanently deleting e-mails.
Simply highlight and then hit Shift-Delete. You will then be asked if you want to permanently delete the e-mail and you say “yes”.
That’s it!
Instead of merely deleting your e-mail and sending it to your Deleted Items, this step permanently deletes the e-mail. This is particularly handy and necessary for those e-mails where you are told something needs your immediate attention. Those e-mails are even kind enough to provide a convenient link for you to click on.
First, never click on those links—even if it uses an e-mail with the correct domain name. Log on to your account directly.
Second, you do NOT want that e-mail hanging around. Who knows what it can do? Even in your Deleted Items box. Permanently delete it ASAP.
If you have a bunch of those, say hanging out in your Junk Mail, you can use the Shift + Down Arrow or Page Down function to highlight multiple e-mails you want to permanently delete. Then, just press Shift-Delete.
When you are coming off vacation, there are always a ton of e-mails to delete. This is a great way to eliminate the ones you have zero interest in ASAP.
Speaking of vacations.
Our poll question last week, How much time do you take off in the summer, revealed the following:
40 percent take two weeks off a year
60 percent essentially say – “What’s time off?”
Seeing how the other two options were One Week and More than Two Weeks that’s a little troubling. Time off is essential for all workers, remotely or otherwise. If you can’t take time off, then make sure you’re doing things during the day and on the weekends that re-energize you. That includes a day with ZERO screen time.
