It had nothing to do with security. Frankly, the Chinese would be rather bored spying on yours truly. My life story wouldn’t make a banned book list in any red state.
No, I uninstalled TikTok for the reason most people should:
You spend way too much time on it!
This idea came from my recent infatuation with the book Atomic Habits. The author James Clear actually uninstalls TikTok during the work week. Then, when/if he’s got free time on the weekend and feels so inclined, he reinstalls.
You can reinstall an app? What a concept.
After one particularly focus-challenged day, I gave this a whirl. You know what? I didn’t miss it. Since it wasn’t there, I didn’t bother looking for it on my phone. Fortunately, no other app really caught my attention in its place.
Has TikTok made it’s way back to my phone? Yes. Yet not during the workday. Reinstallation takes all of a minute.
Have you ever tried removing the addictive apps on your phone? At least temporarily. Give it a shot. Better yet, keep your phone far enough away from your workstation so you will not be tempted.
Speaking of great business and self-help books
This past week yours truly posted the following on LinkedIn. Part of that post was a request for people to share their favorite self-help or business book.
It took a little prodding—particularly those in my B2B networking group--but folks finally did share their favorite business book. Here are some of the most mentioned:
Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill
The Go Giver by Bob Burg
What Got You Here Won’t Get You There by Marshall Goldsmith
What’s your favorite business or self-help book? Please leave in the comment section below.
Musings from Cousin Hendry
I love my cousin Henry. Molder of young minds as an educator and high school guidance counselor. Master cartographer of helping those youts (yes, I said ‘utes’) chart the right path post high school as the principal at Your Key to College. Cousin Hendry often has rare and introspective thoughts that go beyond the world of academia. Here’s one.
“Why is a dime smaller than a nickel?”
Just be with that one for a moment.
Inspiring quote of the week
