Closed captions not just for the hearing impaired
Improve your video’s SEO with closed captioning
Do you post videos on YouTube, Vimeo or other sites? Do you include subtitles or closed captions? You may want to reconsider this as closed captioned transcripts impact SEO rankings.
How much so?
Facebook found that captions increased video views by 12% compared with uncaptioned videos..
A study by PLYmedia found that captioned videos received 40 percent more views and increased the likelihood of the video being watched to completion by 80 percent.
If you’re recording your videos with Zoom, which has a transcribe option, you will have an entire transcript to post with your video. You can also get a transcript if you edit with an app like Descript, which My HOH discussed a few weeks ago.
Here’s a video that shows you in great detail how to include subtitles or closed captions. You can include a full transcript or just specific phrases to signify the different segments of your video. This video explains it pretty well.
So, how do you find the transcript after you’ve posted your video. Just click the dots indicated by the red arrow.
And this is what you will see.
This can be either the entire transcript of the video or a phrase associated with a certain segment of the video. The video below gives a much better explanation.
But what about….Girl Let’s Glow
I came across this blog while researching an article on standing desks (stay tuned for that). The author of Girl Let’s Glow Emily Higgins transformed her life from being overweight and incredibly unhealthy to losing a bunch of weight, getting in shape and becoming a model. As a fellow WFH professional, what caught my eye most was Emily’s morning routine checklist. Check it out.
