Mindfulness and working from home
Short meditations to get your back on track while WFH. For the paying folks, what the Aussies think of WFH. Includes a BONUS hack.
A mindful meditation can be a work-from-home professional’s secret weapon against distractions and a monkey mind.
Why it matters
When you work from home, you have the distractions of the job/clients, plus any number of other fires to put out (e.g., kids, pets, troublesome household appliances, service technicians, etc.). Those can start a chain reaction of panic. A simple five-minute meditation can derail that reaction and put you into an event better place.
Going deeper
That happened to yours truly this past week. Thankfully, one of my clients is an executive coach—and certified meditation teacher—who happened to call during this episode. Timothy, the founder of Mindful Leadership Executive Coaching led me through a short mindful meditation with a focus on breathing and slowing things down—way down.
The end result
In five minutes, I was not only calm but in a state of flow where I could get back to work and be effective. Thank you, Timothy!
The science behind mindful meditation
A daily mindful meditation practice can have lasting benefits in just a few months. According to research by such institutions as Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts General Hospital and others, consistent mindfulness meditation can lead to structural changes in the brain, enhancing areas associated with memory, self-awareness, and emotional regulation.
Mindful meditations
Timothy has a whole bunch of mindful meditations on his new website, which yours truly helped out on the copy. Check it out.
Sundays or Mondays
I screwed up. I hit send rather than schedule for last week’s My Home Office Hacks and it went out on Sunday. The punishment/reward? It’s difficult to tell. The open rate was slightly lower, views slightly higher. So, I thought I’d ask which you prefer:
I love me some dry erase board
