I feel more is known about Madonnas music than her personal life and it's the reverse for Taylor Swift. It's probably a sign of how marketing has changed over time.
Side note, I don't think Madonna's music has really held up that well over time. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that will probably be the case with Taylor. At least with the music she has made to date. She's still ridiculously young.
I'm not really sure if it's the marketing. Taylor Swift writes about her life in her music quite often, frequently trashing her exes. So it's natural people know more about her personal life. Madonna was trying to be outrageous in her public life so people would talk about that rather than her private life. Both knew that the public can't forget about you if you never go away.
